Broadband refers to a connection which has more bandwidth than a modem, and tends to be a very generic term with no specific speed attached to it, but will always mean a connection to the internet rather than LAN connection.

Co-location- where an ISP hosted an individual or companies server or hardware on their behalf.

DHCP - Dynamic Host Configuration - distributes IP addresses to clients on a network dynamically.

DNS - domain name system translates a domain name into an IP address.

FTP or File Transfer Protocol is a method used to transfer files to and from the internet.

A host is a computer or client on a network that provides services to other computers or clients on the same network.

HTTP or HyperText Transfer Protocol allows hypertext files to be transfered to and from and across the internet. HTTP is the most significant protocol used in the World Wide Web (www)

IMAP is an email technology. Using IMAP, an email client program can not only retrieve email but can also manipulate content stored on the server, without having to actually retrieve the messages. IMAP allows for greater control over email as they can be stored, emailed etc and shared between groups where POP email can't.

IPv4 Internet Protocol version 4, this is the most widely used version of the internet protocol. IPv4 allows for a maximum of four billing ip addresses. Because of this it's being replaced by IPv6. IPv6 is slowly replacing IPv4 as it allows for the use of more IP addresses.

IPv6 is a new technology that allows for a greater amount of IP addresses.

LAN - local area network, commonly used in small organisations.

Network - when two or more computers are connected together to share resources.
