HTC is one of the leading providers of smartphones offering up a wide selection of products that run on Google's android platform. The phone we will be looking at in this review is the HTC wildfire.
The HTC wildfire has many things in common with two other phones. It draws characteristics from both the HTC desire and the Google Nexus One. While this is generally considered to be an entry level phone by most people, it offers a variety of benefits to its users. It runs with a 582 MHz Processor and has 384 MB of memory. It has a built in camera and that takes 5 megapixel pictures and offers a viewing area that is 3.2".
The wildfire has many different widgets designed by HTC that are included to enhance your experience. One of the most noteworthy is the Friendstream app. It consolidated feds from all of the major social networking sites helping you to stay in touch. The music player also works great. Be sure to use headphones though because the external speaker does not work well with music. Any additional apps that you may need are available for download through the android market.
For the most part, the apps run great but there are some occasional crashes. These are few and far between so it is not much of an issue. One area of special consideration for most people who use smartphones is the battery life. We found that under normal operating conditions that 12 hours of use could be obtained. The conditions under which this was tested included solely 3g connection and various tasks like making videos, picture taking, internet access and music playback.
The screen is a standard LCD that helps to keep the price down on the phone. This does not affect the performance of the phone at all. If you are looking for your first smartphone device or you just want to get a replacement device, then the HTC Wildfire may be a great option. The price really cannot be beat, especially if you are purchasing it without a contract. This means that not only is the phone affordable, but also functional.
