Accessing Telephone services to Correctional institutions

By Alex Watts

Inmates need to maintain contact with their near and dear ones while serving their sentence in prisons. But the family does not always find it convenient to visit them; hence, they can avail inmates phone services, such as OffenderConnect for allowing the inmates to call them. The service also has a website where the family can perform a number of self service activities.

It is easy for the family of the inmate to create a phone account, either in their own name or in the inmate's account. They have to access www.offendersconnect.com and then sign up accordingly. This is done by providing details of name, phone numbers and email id, etc. Multiple numbers for access can be provided. This enables the inmate to call up any of these numbers and contact other relatives as well at these numbers.

Some other services offered by OffenderConnect through inmates phones services, is the depositing of funds in the trust account of inmate. This is also done through www.offendersconect.com. The money gets deposited in the commissary account of the inmate, from where he can use it for his expenses at the jail. The family can also send emails, which are reviewed and disbursed by the jail authorities to the inmate. They can also check up on the history of their payments and view account statements at the website.

The OffenderConnect services are available at several facilities across the United States. In order to find out whether the particular facility you require is present in their participating ones, you can first select the correct state and then choose the facility from the dropdown box. You can even ask for a special service, in case the facility name is not listed.

The services of OffenderConnect are tailored to meet the specific requirements of each facility. You can also avail customer service through the website itself. You have to click on the appropriate service, such as payment support, account management support and so on. You can also check out to see if the facility has an OffenderConnect kiosk in the lobby. You can then place money in the commissary account and the inmate can access it through the lobby or the visitation area of the jail. However, these kiosks are not available in all detention facilities.
