Benefiting from Free File Downloads

By Doug Joseph

In our modern day and age, it is still a possibility for people to get what they need without having to pay a single penny. If someone tells you that he or she is not interested in free things, he or she is lying for sure. You may not believe it but there are so many free goodies on the Internet that one website even calls itself "Your Free File".

That website is just one of the many that offer free movie, music, software, games and photo downloads. When it comes to the Internet, you should really take your time if you are looking for different kinds of files because this is how you will be able to find sources that offer legal downloads. The World Wide Web is a great avenue for the sharing of information but not all sharing is legal in a sense and on the Internet, there are surfers who look for and download files without having any intention of violating any laws while there are the hackers who go online purposely to commit crimes against the laws of cyber space.

Before you start trying to make those free downloads, here are a few basic things you need to know about copyright infringement. It is a copyright that serves to protect the author of an original work and give him or her ownership over that said work. There are people who may attempt to capitalize on something that is not theirs may it be in music, art, or literature and this is why copyrights exist so that the authors of these original masterpieces will be protected.

Copyrights are relatively new in modern society. Before the 20th century, artists, authors and creators weren't as concerned about their rights and of their own intellectual possession. Referred to as materials of public dominion were all original works prior to 1978 and so nothing was copyrighted.

On the Web, when are violations against copyrights committed? File downloading is not the culprit here. It is a search engine like www.yourfreefile.com that helps people locate free downloads on the web as they direct visitors to these particular pages.

The way these sites operate is by giving visitors a taste of what is to come and then start offering them full versions of the files later on. Usually, with sites like www.yourfreefile.com, you get free downloads for music and the like but you will be required to download advertising pop ups to enjoy the free music. In this case, after you receive your freebies, it is up to you to decide if you will be purchasing any other thing from the site.

Without downloading any files, copyright infringement is a crime that can easily be committed in a number of different ways. Using written material but not informing readers of where it came from. If you resort to this, you are blatantly removing the rights of the original author to the work that he or she created.

Do not put the contents of another website on your website. There are times when certain kinds of content are needed and when it comes to this, simply give reference to the author and source. If you really liked an article, you may quote or paraphrase a few parts of it, but definitely not the whole thing.

If you plan on using other companies' images for your own site, this is a violation against copyright laws. If you are not working with freeware images, do not copy-paste them onto your website or else. Here, shareware image varieties are also illegal to copy-paste.

If you ask government officials, they will tell you that the Internet is the biggest problem that they have encountered when it comes to copyright law violations. There are a lot of files that are freely available online and you will not be violating any copyright laws for as long as you do not share the same goals as that of hackers. Of course you will find sites that are committing copyright infringement on a daily basis and not getting anything from these sites will help fight the problem.
