So, I'm very happy to rate these headphones at an Excellent 5 stars out of 5. It took me a long time to pull the trigger on these headphones, but believe me it was well worth the money.
To be specific, Sound staging is quite good. Bass is full, prompt, and accurate.
You never hear static or noise from these headphones. When you get to the limit of the range they just cut off. I find the 130's much easier to change volume since it is a simple roll of a wheel but the 180's won't change volume while lying on my side. The 180's do take some getting used to if you want to change volume while you're wearing the headphones.
I get perfect reception in 97 percent of my two story house and most of the back yard. They make house work a LOT less boring.
The headphones are light & I hardly noticed that they were, in fact, on my head. I like that the charging station gives them a "home" to go to.
I have been charging and allowing the phones to completely discharge for a week now and I'm getting 8-10 hours listening time. I'm still far from the 24 hours they claim however. I should note that while I was listening to this selection I was moving around my approx. 1100 hem in an 1100 square foot apartment with no loss of fidelity at all. Problem is controls, the power and volume up and down buttons on next to each other. You always accidentally turn the headphones off while trying to turn up or down the audio. I do periodically get a brief "hiccup" in the sound when I'm in the remote areas of the house, when I'm outside grilling on the patio, and when I walk into the garage. None of those distances exceed 150 feet, so I do question whether these headphones truly have a 320-foot line-of-sight range that Sennheiser advertises. The RS 180 features ALC, which will boost mid-range in the interest of speech intelligibility. If you find it is too much, you can turn it off. This was entirely the fault of the Sony. Having said that, the sheer ability of this set to reproduce sound simply overcame the shortcomings.
This is one of those right at the top. Sound is SUPERIOR to my new 42 LED/LCD TV. With this easy modification, I give this headset a solid 5 STARS. Too bad Sennheiser didn't do this at the factory, but it is very easy to do at home. The sound of this headset is outstanding. This is simply not true, and I don't know why he told me this. This is not a negative about the 180's since maybe nobody is looking for this feature except me, but it is a severe mis-statement of fact by a Sennheiser representative.
