Benefits And Advantages To Using SharePoint

By Jim Bajaj

There are many benefits to implementing SharePoint, which is quite obvious if you simply look at the number of companies who are implementing it. Did you know it's one of the top three most profitable projects for Microsoft? I know that's stunning and in fact, most people have never heard of this fact until now.

While there are many specific and detail-oriented benefits and features one could list off - I believe the most important is the web-access angle to SharePoint. It allows for extremely easy implementation that requires nothing special on the front end and end-user computers.

Now, the fact that it is web-based isn't great only for sharing information inside of your company between your own people. The beauty of this implementation is that it allows for easy sharing with outside people and companies as well. Heck, you could access all your company's files from abroad from any random hotel, as if you were in your own office.

For most people, they've already been sold on SP by the web-access benefits. However, that's not where the goodies end! The other thing that people often bring up when recommending SP is it's scalability. It's engineered and licensed in such a way that it can fit businesses of any size and type, and it's also made such that it can grow as your business grows.

And finally, you just gotta love the Microsoft Office integration. It just perfectly integrates and embeds itself in the entire Microsoft office suite. It adds a whole bunch of menu items, buttons, and contextual menus in such a way that it feels it's a part of Office itself. This makes for an extremely easy transition for anyone in your company who's comfortable using MS Office suites.
