When you place the phone in the holder you need to compress the side holders till they lock. The side holders need to be released with what seems to be a spring loaded mechanism by depressing the button you see on the left side of the holder when you want to take the phone out. Love this thing so much I got two of them. I got one for my phone and one for my iPod. If your phone has charging or audio ports in those areas, you might be hard-pressed to charge or plug into your car's aux port. I'd suggest this product to any Android user looking for a high-quality car mount. IPhone fits perfectly, and I have enough space to use the charger. Super easy to mount, and use, I love how I can secure \my phone just by adjusting the sides. The alternate mount (windshield) appears to be as good as our dedicated GPS (which is good) based on my examination of the materials and design, but as I said I haven't tried it yet. One could also do hands-free with it, though that is not advised. In both of my vehicles (Taurus and Siena), the clips really don't hold all that well allowing the whole mount to move with the additional weight of the Droid. Further, trying to use the phone requires holding it steady first.
Don't turn hard or your phone will end up under the gas pedal. I've had navigation systems and was not pleased with the suction cups. It moves around a bit. I have only used this item's vent mount. I use the vent mount. My only complaint is that the clips tend to damage/scratch the vents.
It was great! I used the vent mount in a 2011 Toyota Camry rental vehicle and it was perfectly positioned so my phone could be rotated to landscape.
I read a review on here before I bought that the suction cup doesn't stay at all. Whoever wrote that review is straight up inept. You will not be disappointed. I have a 2003 Land Rover Discovery 2 and this product works perfectly.
I bought it for the vent mount capability as it seemed it would be the most convenient for both my vehicles. However, it wouldn't fit the vents in my truck and after mounting my Droid X in the vent mount in my car, the mount fell out of the vent.
Unfortunately the vent mount fits very loosely and moves back and forth when taking a turn. I'm unable to install it onto the vents closest to the driver because it interferes with the wiper control and the headlight/blinker control. Very well made, sturdy on both the vent and on the suction cup, although, I never really like to trust suction cups with something like this...always afraid it will suddenly drop and break it. I use the vent clip holder and it positions very nicely with the support bracket they have included.

The "foot" of the clip also makes it impossible to mount successfully in more ideal positions, and adds no stability. WINDSHIELD CRACK.
