How to Get Driving Directions Online for Free

By Richard L

There are hundreds of sites that provide free online mapping solutions, the majority of these sites provide free accurate directions, and also directions for other modes of transportation. However, there are other services that are also very powerful, but most of them cost a lot of money, a great example would be GPS, which makes users buy devices and pay monthly fees in order to use the services that they offer.

Fortunately, now we all have access to free online mapping websites such as Google Maps, Mapquest, Yahoo Maps and Bing Maps. All of these sites and many more offer free turn by turn driving directions that you can use at any time, no matter where you are, they also provide other useful information such as weather and traffic information.

These web mapping services also provide mobile solutions that will automatically turn your smartphone into a living GPS device. Map Quest recently released an incredible mobile application that's available for both Android and iPhone, this app even provides voice guided turn by turn directions, a feature that will make driving a lot safer.

Google Maps for mobile will also turn your smartphone into a GPS device, the app offers GPS navigation to your destination, and it is also packed with many more great features. You can use Google Maps for mobile to search for places and get local information you need, plus other great features such as 3d maps, indoor maps, street view images, offline maps, and zagat reviews.

I mentioned Yahoo Maps and Bing Maps earlier, they are both great, in fact, Bing Maps is one of my favorite online mapping services, the bird's eye view is quite stunning, and their maps and directions are also very impressive. Most big companies, stores, restaurants, and even banks use the Bing Maps API to create location applications for their websites.

There are probably hundreds of sites out there that provide free driving directions, I've visited most of these sites to get directions, but I truly believe that the best options are the big four, which are the sites that I've mentioned here. If you are looking for a routing solution, other than GPS, that will help you save time and a lot of money as well, then visit any of these sites and take advantage of what they have to offer.
