Notable RSS Reading Programs for the Motorola Atrix

By Gareth Jale

The Motorola Atrix is a revolutionary device that has a 4.0 inch capacitive screen and a 1Ghz dual core processor. To accentuate the fact that this is a power user's machine, Motorola offers an optional laptop dock that truly sets the Atrix apart from every other smart phone on the market. The device also boasts a huge selection of accessories, and included in the box is a long-life battery and a premium charger. As a power user's smart phone, one thing the Atrix is particularly good at is organizing the great volume of information that we retrieve from the Internet.

In order to take advantage of news-reading capabilities of the Atrix you will need a couple of RSS applications. The good news is that there is a wide array of such apps available, so you shouldn't have much trouble finding one that suits you. But the downside to all of that choice is that not all RSS readers are created equal, and some are better suited than others are to get the most out of your Atrix. A good RSS application will be aggressive and use up all the power that the Atrix has to offer.

NewsRob is a very good RSS reading application and it can be very convenient because it will automatically synchronize it with Google Reader. It's available in an ad-supported version, but if you like it, it's worth upgrading because the pay-for version boasts a number of cool power user features. The reason NewsRob works so well with the Atrix is that it isn't shy about handling a large number of feeds. And while that may make it run sluggish at times on lesser machines, the Tegra 2 drives it like a dream.

Greed is much like NewsRob and it also enhances the Google Reader experience. Many customers see Greed as a powerful alternative to NewsRob. It boasts a better notification system, and it has more sophisticated customization options than NewsRob does. It also has all of the core features that make NewsRob so great. The only downside to Greed is that the UI is not as easy to use. A learning curve isn't necessarily a bad thing. If you do plan to learn the app then Greed will be the best application.

Then there is GReader, which distinguishes itself from NewsRob and Greed with its pure, unbridled speed. When it comes to power users and RSS apps, there are two camps: speed vs. organization. Although having a balance among the two is probably the best way to go, if you plan to download as fast as possible then GReader is the number one application. Of course, GReader does have its share of organizational tools too, but they're not nearly as powerful and accessible as the tools offered by Greed and NewsRob.
